Faith is messy, and is both more complex and more simple than some make it out to be.
I have experienced these paradoxes firsthand and have come to intimately know that faith is not a one-size fits all experience. Many of us who have a faith have experienced harm by those we have called allies; many of us have experienced doubt, anger, confusion, disappointment, and disillusionment.

To the naked eye, it could seem like my work history is eclectic, yet I feel my many careers have led me to this point. I have worked as a Community Minister and Youth Worker in inner city neighbourhoods, been a Chaplain in various prisons, worked as an Educational Assistant with children that have seen far too much at an early age, worked as a Career Coach at a University during a pandemic, and worked at a Microbrewery.
My hands have held bodies as they’ve transitioned from life to death via overdose, I’ve assisted in deescalating gang conflicts and 10-year old’s - whose own trauma wanted the best of them. I’ve seen fear and stress emanate from a 21-year-old as they considered what program and career to choose between with thousands of dollars on the line. I’ve sat with people as they seriously contemplated divorce, contemplated suicide, and then, soon after I held a newborn baby in my arms. I’ve witnessed what joy looks like when mixed with grief, and I’ve seen life and death dance so closely together it has changed me forever.
Through my various careers, I’ve always been people-facing and on the front-lines of service. Hearing people’s stories and valuing their lived experience is important to me and I’ve grown a passion for talking with people about the real stuff.
Along with the above lived experience I bring the following to my work with RealTalk Chaplaincy:
